Abstract

Ensuring decent treatment of refugees and creating acceptable living conditions for them is one of the most important tasks for the world community today. A large number of people are forced to leave their homes due to hostilities, violations of fundamental rights, natural disasters and other circumstances that threaten their lives. n 2015-2016, the European Union, which has a significant influence in the field of human rights protection and ensuring global stability, faced a large-scale wave of refugees, which exposed weaknesses in the asylum mechanism and highlighted the need for its modernization. Regulation of the legal status of refugees in the countries of the European Union is becoming increasingly important due to the constant increase in the number of people forced to leave their homes, as well as due to the need for rational management of migration processes. This concerns issues of division of responsibilities between participating countries, creation of appropriate conditions for the reception and adaptation of refugees, as well as countering illegal flows of migration and human trafficking. Another serious test for the regulation of the status of refugees in the European Union was the arrival of new migrants from Ukraine due to military aggression by the Russian Federation. Such a situation has caused a great strain on the mechanisms of reception and protection in European countries, requiring quick and decisive actions to solve the crisis.
