Abstract

The article establishes that the adaptation of Ukraine’s labor legislation to European social protection standards is highly relevant in the context of the country’s European integration aspirations. It is noted that this task involves not only the improvement of legal norms but also ensuring decent working conditions, social protection, and support for equal opportunities for all categories of workers. The necessity of adapting Ukraine’s labor legislation to EU standards is substantiated, and the key directions for improving the regulatory framework to guarantee workers’ rights, increase social justice, and create conditions for social and economic development are highlighted.

A range of methods, including comparative, analytical, and legal approaches, is applied, allowing for an in-depth analysis of the current state of Ukrainian labor legislation and its compliance with European directives and standards. Key EU legal documents and national regulations are analyzed, which helps identify the main discrepancies that hinder effective social protection for workers in Ukraine.

The study reveals that the primary issues in adapting Ukraine’s labor legislation to European standards are related to occupational safety, social protection, anti-discrimination, and shortcomings in implementing social justice principles. Significant discrepancies between Ukrainian norms and European requirements are identified, which limit the ability to ensure an adequate level of protection for workers. It is found that the current social security system does not fully meet the needs of employees, especially in the private sector and for temporary employment.

It is confirmed that adapting Ukraine’s labor legislation to European standards is a crucial step toward creating a fair and inclusive labor market where workers’ rights are protected at an appropriate level. It is noted that implementing European requirements will reduce cases of discrimination, improve working conditions, and raise social standards, which will positively impact social stability and economic growth in the country. Additionally, this will bring Ukraine closer to the socially oriented model characteristic of the EU.

Future research will focus on analyzing the practical aspects of implementing European standards in Ukraine’s labor legislation under conditions of socio-economic instability and armed conflict.
