Criminological Support for the Activities of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine: Theoretical Substantiation and a Functional Model

Abstract

This article provides a theoretical justification for the criminological support of the activities of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine as an independent criminological category and defines its role within the system of information and analytical support for the Bureau’s activities. The aim of the article is to provide a theoretical justification for the nature of criminological support for the activities of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine, to define its content, structure, functional purpose and principles of implementation, to clarify its place within the system of information and analytical support for the Bureau’s activities, and to develop a functional model focused on identifying, assessing, forecasting and preventing crime-related risks in the sphere of the state’s economic security. Using systemic-structural, dialectical and dogmatic methods, the essence of criminological support has been revealed, and its functional purpose, structural components and principles of implementation have been defined. An author’s definition of criminological support for the activities of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine has been proposed, and a functional model of criminological support has been developed, structured according to the following logic: ‘information – criminological diagnosis – deterministic analysis – assessment of criminogenic risks – forecasting – preventive measures – evaluation of effectiveness – adjustment’.
