Abstract

The article examines the role of political elites in influencing the development of political parties in Ukraine. The main goal of the work is to analyze how political elites contribute to the formation, transformation and functioning of parties in the context of changes in the Ukrainian political landscape. Particular attention is paid to identifying key factors that determine the interaction between elites and party structures, taking into account historical, institutional and socio-economic conditions. This study uses both qualitative and quantitative methods. In particular, a content analysis of legislative acts, a comparative analysis of political systems, as well as expert interviews with representatives of political parties and academics were conducted. Such a methodological approach allows for a comprehensive study of the mechanisms of influence of elites on the internal structure of parties, their ideological positioning and approaches to electoral strategies.

The results of the study confirm that political elites have a decisive influence on determining the strategic priorities of parties, their political goals and their ability to adapt to changes in the political environment. It was found that the concentration of power in the hands of elite groups significantly limits the internal democratization of parties and their ability to represent a wide range of public interests. In addition, external factors such as international influence and the economic situation play a significant role between elites and parties. The study showed that the level of internal democracy of parties directly depends on the decision-making mechanisms and the involvement of ordinary members in the development of strategic decisions. In those political structures where the party elite controls the decision-making process without open discussion, there is a tendency to centralize power and reduce the level of political competition within the party.

The conclusions emphasize the need to increase transparency and inclusiveness within political parties as key factors in strengthening their democratic functionality and ability to effectively respond to the needs of citizens. Openness of party processes, expansion of opportunities for participation of rank-and-file members in shaping political course and decision-making will contribute to increasing trust in party institutions and strengthening the connection between the political elite and society. The results obtained have significant practical value for politicians, experts and researchers who deal with issues of improving the party system of Ukraine and consolidating democracy.
