Internal control over the activities of the security and defence sector of Ukraine as an important component of democratic civilian control

The article examines current issues related to the organization of internal control in the security forces system of the security and defense sector of Ukraine as an important component of democratic civilian control. Theoretical and methodological approaches to improving individual components of the process of organizing and implementing internal control in the security forces system of the security and defense sector of Ukraine in modern conditions are analyzed. The author confirmed the relationship between the internal control system in the security forces system and the basic principles of democratic civilian control, namely, it was proven that such elements of internal control as accountability, transparency, legality, protection of human rights and freedoms correspond to the basic principles of ensuring democratic civilian control. It has been established that internal control can be considered an integral component of democratic civilian control. Problematic issues of organizing internal control in the security forces system of the security and defense sector of Ukraine have been identified, which require further in-depth research and remain insufficiently disclosed, and ways to solve them have been proposed.
